An article by Azeem Azhar (by way of Lance Knobel) caught my attention. Ever since my formative years, society has appeared to me to push people towards specialisation.
This occurs from the choice of subjects at school and university, to the advice of careers counsellors and then into the job market itself. Why is this?

The BBC reports that "Scientists have set a new internet speed record by transferring 6.7 gigabytes of data across 10,978 kilometres (6,800 miles), from Sunnyvale in the US to Amsterdam in Holland, in less than one minute".

Ok, after a relatively slow month in January, February sure has picked up the pace. After Overture's recent acquisition of AltaVista, they have now announced a buyout of Fast.

Good news for those of us who are constantly connected at work. The latest survey (as reported by Techweb) conducted by the Center for e-Service at the University of Maryland shows that workers who use the internet at both home and work end up spending more time using it for business.
This is because any time spent recreationally surfing during work hours is more than compensated by the amount of time that they spend working on the internet out of hours.
